What Distracts You From Working

What Distracts You From Working 4 I love the Internet. I hate boredom. In 2007, it has now been 13 years that I've been online and to be perfectly honest, I don't think that I've ever been bored online in all that time. TV? Used to bore me all the time â€" not just the ads either â€" and that's why I barely watch any. One of the dangerously addictive parts of the Net in my eyes is Digg. Like a video game, if I wasn't careful I could spend hours and hours reading and voting, voting and reading. That is why I avoid using a Digg widget on my computer's Desktop, instead limiting myself to the homepage RSS feed. That alone can still eat an hour of my day. Here's something that I just Dugg: favicon2dots. You put in https://jobmob.co.il/ or any URL to a site with a favicon and voila, pixel-beauty, here on the right.eval So what distracts you from working? Enjoying the blue bubble?

Personal Branding Interview Penelope Trunk - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Personal Branding Interview Penelope Trunk - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Today, I spoke to Penelope Trunk, who is the CEO of BrazenCareerist.com, the author of Brazen Careerist, the New Rules for Success, and a top career blogger.   In this interview, Penelope tells us about how she started her new company, tips for people interested in building a personal brand, how shes stood out amongst a lot of career experts out there and more.   As a side note, Im an evangelist of Brazen Careerist, but believe in their mission and site anyways. Where did Brazen Careerist originally come from and how did it evolve over time (book/blog/company, etc)? The company started as a way for me to share traffic with people who didnt have a big a voice online. I realized that I could shift the traffic I had on my blog to people who did not have as much traffic. My first idea was that I could help people this way and the blog network was a way to do that. As Brazen Careerist evolved, we realized there were bigger ways we could help people. What tips would you give to someone first starting out with personal branding? Focus more on trying to figure out what you love than trying to figure out how to brand yourself. A personal brand that stands for nothing is not very useful. The process of branding yourself is something that has to go hand in hand with the process of understanding what is unique about you. Youve managed to stand out in the career space, where there are thousands of people vying for attention? What is your secret to doing so? I didnt start out intending to be a writer about career stuff. I started writing about myself. My love life, my family, my episodes of self-doubt. It turned out, though, that I had to also support myself. So I started a career in software marketing, and what people were willing to pay me to write about was my career. I think what made me stand out as a career writer is that I didnt want to write about work. I wanted to write about the stuff thats brushing up along next to work. What have been your experiences been like working with millennials at your company? Do you think its challenging to work with people who are much younger? Its challenging for me to work with anyone, to be honest. Its about compromising and listening and having patience. I think thats what all relationships are about. I am still learning what part of relationships Im good at. Im good at caring about other people. But Im not sure Im good at doing it in a conventional well. So all this stuff is challenging for me in the company, and I dont think it has anything to do with the age of my co-workers. What do you have planned for the future? What will Brazen look like in 5 or 10 years? I hope Brazen Careerist will look huge and it will be the first place everyone goes to launch a job search or to figure out where they should be going next, or who they should be helping next. - Penelope Trunk is the CEO of BrazenCareerist.com, both the largest online community of Generation Y professionals and a consulting firm that helps companies reach young professionals. Her clients rely on her to help them understand Generation Y’s priorities and passions so they can better build and manage their young workforce.   Penelope’s breadth of experience encompasses ten years as an executive in the software industry and three companies of her own, and she has navigated an IPO, a merger, and a bankruptcy. And before all that, she played professional beach volleyball. She is also the author of Brazen Careerist, the New Rules for Success, published by Warner Books in 2007. Guest Post 7 Ways to Tell Your Job is Worth Keeping

Guest Post 7 Ways to Tell Your Job is Worth Keeping This is a guest post by Britt Klontz, Digital Marketing expert So you’ve got a job. Hooray. In this job market, you know you’re supposed to be thankful for whatever you’ve got. And yet, when that video of a girl quitting her job while dancing to Kanye went viral, it may have felt a little too cathartic. Time to quit? Maybe. After all, the correlation between personal fulfillment and success on the job is a strong one. If you’re really miserable, you’re unlikely to brainstorm those cutting edge ideas that will both advance your career and put your company on the cutting edge. Still, it’s important not to confuse a little slump with a deeper dissatisfaction, especially if the role that’s got you down may soon lead to your dream job. To really determine whether or not your job is worth keeping, we recommend starting with a skills inventory, so you can determine whether or not your current role really matches your talents and passions. Then test your job with the 7 following criteria to determine whether or not you should keep on keepin’ on. Image via Shutterstock 1. You Feel Like You’re Learning New Things Being competent at your job is one thing; stagnating is another. Every professional, no matter what stage in their career, enjoys their work more when they’re constantly learning and feel properly challenged (i.e. not in over their heads but still pushed). In fact, new challenges aren’t just good for your psychology, they’re good for the physical structure of your brain, especially as you age and tend towards less plasticity. New challenges force your neurons into making new connections, helping you see the world, your work, and even your personal life in new and creative ways. Put simply: when your brain thrives, you thrive, so it’s important that your job gets those neurotransmitters pumping. 2. You’re Excited to Get Up in the Morning Or, you know, you at least don’t immediately start crying when the alarm clock rings. Your mind can be a powerful and misleading force of unwarranted optimism and denial, but your body won’t lie to you. If you wake up every morning dreading having to go into work, that’s a clear sign it’s time to call it quits. The same thing goes if you’re purposely staying up way past your bedtime just to stretch out the amount of time before you’ll have to wake up and start the whole cycle over again. 3. You’re Not Exhausted All the Time Fatigue can spring from many sources, most of which aren’t very good. Maybe it’s tight deadlines, long hours and overtime, a ridiculous amount of travel, or simply being the boss’ punching bag during office meetings. Unless you’ve got a clear medical conditionâ€"say, Chronic Fatigue Syndromeâ€"exhaustion is generally a sign that something needs to change. Whether that means talking to your boss about cutting back hours or changing jobs altogether is up to you. 4. You Feel Respected and Cared For There are communities that help us reach our full potential and there are those that set up roadblocks every step of the way. Maybe it’s a jealous co-worker, an overly competitive environment, a boss who never says, Good job, or a simple lack of recognition on a company-wide scale. Whatever the impediment, if you’re not feeling respected, it’s likely you’re also wasting a lot of energy feeling bitter and resentful. These feelings greatly inhibit your ability to thrive both in the office and in your career at large, and are a great sign you’ve reached a dead end. 5. You Feel Properly Compensated for What You Do Some people don’t mind working for next to nothing in a job they love. Other people go the opposite route, willing to work a job they detest just as long the pay is good. Whether you feel properly compensated on the job will depend on where you lie on this spectrum, as well as the many other criterion we’ve discussed so far (e.g. if you don’t feel respected and cared for, no six-figure salary can alter your misery). Of course, it’s important to factor in not just base salary but also benefits and raises. If you haven’t received a raise in at least two years, it’s probably time to call it quits. 6. There’s a Future for you No matter how senior your role, a great position will make you feel like there’s always something for you to grow into. Perhaps you feel there’s an exciting, challenging project on the horizon; maybe you’ve got the next job up the ladder in your sights; or maybe you work for a startup and really believe that you’re part of an important mission. Whatever the sources of inspiration, you’ve got to have hope for the future or else you’ll just be sitting around, waiting to clock out. One sure sign that it’s time to get out: your company is bleeding on the stock market, and management is making all the wrong decisions. 7. You Don’t ProcrastinateTOO Much In a world of smartphones and email, we’re all guilty of a little online procrastination. But if you find yourself constantly checking Facebook, spending more than an hour answering emails that don’t need answering when you get to the office in the morning, and putting off any tasks that require a modicum of work, this is a good sign that you’re pretty much over your job. Too often, we view procrastination as something we need to be guilty about; don’t be. Just take it as a sign, try to find its root cause, and then, well, do something about it. The Takeaway A little ambivalence or outright frustration with your job here and there is normal. But just because nothing is perfect, doesn’t mean there isn’t a better suited position out there for you. Find something you’re more passionate about, that pays you better, that makes you feel respected and that helps you grow, and you’re far more likely to thrive in your career and at home. Happy hunting! Britt Klontz is a new media marketing manager based in Tampa, Florida

Living a Healthier Lifestyle

Living a Healthier Lifestyle As we all know there are several issues that are going on in our eco-system.   Every country on the planet is suffering from pollution.   Whether on air or on water its all the same we have to watch out for our health and our loved ones.   What we bring in to our homes may cause an effect by means of hauling in to our homes nasty contaminants, particularly waterbourne contaminants. Waterbourne Contaminants: Contaminants such as microbial and organic can be harmful to adults and most especially to children.   Dince its hardly detected by human senses, it will cause more harm in the latter part.   This is the main reason why we need to install a trusted water purifier in our homes. Waterborne contaminants include the following: Aluminum, Ammonia, Arsenic, Barium, Cadmium, Chloramine, Chromium, Copper, Fluoride, Bacteria Viruses, Lead, Nitrates/Nitrites, Mercury, Perchlorate, Radium, Selenium, Silver, and Uranium. Why Marvel Water Purifier? Marvel by Cuckoo is a slim and space-saving water purifier that is suitable to any household.   It is tankless which means it does not occupy so much space in our homes.   Aso, it is perfect for small houses and workplaces.   It has a 5 stage filtration system.   It is easy to clean and change the filters. Drinking Mild Alkaline Water Taking tap water can cause waterbourne contaminants to enter the body may cause a lot of chronic diseases.   Here is where the benefits of drinking mild alkaline water comes in.  When you talk about alkaline in water it is the actual measurement of PH.   PH measures the amount of acidity in drinking water. Some people say taking mild alkaline water can reduce the aging process.   It may help prevent certain chronic diseases such as cancer.   Mild alkaline water is a natural anti-oxidant.   It has to have alkaline minerals and negative oxidation to make it potent enough to be used. Other studies say that drinking alkaline water may benefit those with high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol.   This can be possible as it is an anti-oxidant. Benefits such as the following may exist:  anti-aging as alkaline water can easily be absorbed by the body.   Colon cleansing properties â€" as it helps when it comes to detoxification.   Immune system support â€" as it neutralizes the ions in the body.   Hydration and skin health â€" as it helps with detoxification and cleansing.   Weight loss â€" as when you are detoxified all toxins will be flushed out of your system.   Cancer resistance â€" as it helps when you do flushing. Taking care of you and yours is easy so as long as you know where to start.   The fundamental of living a good life starts on where life started, in water.   Water is a part of our body.   It one of the most important parts of us living. Assure yourself of a better health by taking on what is needed to preserve our wellbeing, to preserve life.

Part-time jobs Why you should get one this September - Debut

Part-time jobs Why you should get one this September - Debut “Argh it’s already September!” we hear you scream. “Where has the summer gone? Where has the TIME gone? Term can’t be starting already?!” Sorry to break it to you, but yes, yes it is. Term is about to begin which means a fresh new influx of university students, and the return of some old-timers, too. While this is great for university towns, it does mean one thing: high competition for part-time jobs. Sorry (again). We also know you probably don’t want to be talking about getting a job so soon, term hasn’t even begun after all! We know the start of term can be hectic; but getting a part-time job secured as soon as possible once you return to university is a sensible move to make. Let’s break-down why. It is essential for your future Might as well start with the big one. Any kind of work even part-time work as a waiter, library assistant or promo staff for a brand is essential in building your CV. No matter how insignificant or ill-suited a role is to your long-term career goals, there is always something to learn from positions such as these. Because of this it is important to maximise your time at university by undertaking work on a part-time basis around your studies, if possible. Not only will you build new skills on the job, but you will also stand out to future employers as someone able to manage their time effectively and someone who is proactive very desirable traits. Skills for days As we just said, you’ll gain a multitude of new skills from working part-time, that studying won’t give to you. Depending on your role you will probably gain skills in customer service, time management and working under a different kind of pressure to that exerted by your tutors and peers. On top of this it will show employers that you are financially accountable for yourself and with recent research showing that three out of every five students don’t know how much their student loan is, that’s pretty desirable. Money makes the world go round Need we say more?! Working during your studies is a fantastic way of bumping up your bank balance so you can feel a little more financially secure. Plus, finding work in September before all the hard work really kicks off means you’ll be able to build a strong relationship with your employer so that when exam season does begin, they will hopefully be more lenient if you need extra time off to revise. So get in there early before everyone else at university catches on! It’s time well spent You may not agree here, but it can get boring having too much free time. This doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the occasional afternoon off if lectures have finished for the day, but trust us your future self will thank you for not lazing around all the time when you have a wallet full of cash and decent employer references at the end of a shift. Part-time jobs are flexible And this is crucial for students. Who can say how many hours of taught time you’ll have from one term to the next, let alone how many study hours that entails, and whether youll need time off for work experience or an internship, and more. The beauty of a part-time job is that they are usually built around shift work and therefore flexible. You’ll be able to (mostly) work to a schedule that suits you, building your shifts around your studies (and, of course, what works for the employer). So what are you waiting for? Get in there before your mates do Connect with Debut on  Facebook,  Twitter,  and  LinkedIn  for more careers insights.

6 Things To Know About Your Job Search Campaign

6 Things To Know About Your Job Search Campaign You can search, hunt, or campaign for your next job. Which sounds like it requires more effort on your part? Campaigning may have been your choice. While I dont know first hand all the steps that go into running for office, I do know what Ive seen and it looks like a lot of work to me! A campaign involves travel, Town Hall Meetings, kissing babies, and lets not forget the newest trend- robo-dialing (NO!). Everything but the robo-dialing! What It Takes To Run A Campaign All the travel, meetings and appearances require planning. The candidate pays people money to arrange and coordinate these people. And they have a collection of volunteers helping them as well. I dont think you have been raising money for this, so youll have to do it yourself. I suppose you could try to rally volunteers to help you. A volunteer may be a close friend who is willing to introduce you to someone. A PR pro and speech writer are probably also on the candidates payroll. Again, these are roles youll have to take on yourself if you dont have access to a pile of cash. Hiring a coach or resume writer may be in your budget however. And lets not forget good old stamina, charisma and self-confidence. Winning candidates ooze this stuff! They almost boast about their qualifications. You probably wouldnt vote for someone who you didnt think could handle the job. But NEVER bad-mouth the other candidate, OK?! My post on US News World Report today is about the six things your job search campaign should include! Go have a read, please!

Resume Tips That Set You Apart From Your Peers

Resume Tips That Set You Apart From Your Peers Your resume is your marketing tool for success. You need to be able to advertise your skills and ability to succeed with your prospective employer. The format and feel of your resume can either open doors or close them, often this feeling can make people question why they didnt get the interview or thinking they are not qualified. The resume that lands you the job interview isnt a simple listing of your past duties or work experience. It has to convince readers that you have the required skills and abilities to exceed the expectations of the position, so your resume should be structured in a way that arouses employers interest in you and gives them reasons as to why you are more qualified than others, while encouraging the employer to get in touch with you for an interview. Most people do not realize that employers will do a quick scan of a resume, it typically lasts only a few seconds. Theyre looking for key skills and accomplishments that the perfect candidate will have. So capturing the employers attention is critical or else youre information can get lost in the shuffle. To prevent your resume from ending up in the “Trash” file, here are some helpful resume tips that will set you apart from the rest. 1. Review the job posting and description carefully A lot of the time, job-hunters will write one generic resume and send the same generic resume to every employer. This is one of the biggest mistakes facing job seekers because it produces so-so resumes that dont necessarily match the employers requirements. You need to highlight your appropriate skills for that job. Reviewing the job requirements is a great way to tailor-make your resume contents to the employers needs. 2. Know the difference in resumes There are two main types of resumes: chronological resumes and functional resumes. Chronological resumes coordinate your past job experience and place emphasis on your experiences that apply to that field. Functional resumes are good when you have little to zero work experience (or new grads). This type of resume allows you to showcase skills that fit in with the job requirements. Fair warning:   most recruiters and hiring managers don’t like this format and feel as though you  may be  â€œhiding” something. If you have a chronological resume, you do not want to have one part chronological and one part functional, because it will throw off the entire formatting and may confuse the employer about your skill set. 3. Focusing on accomplishments Focusing on what you have accomplished will help to set you apart from your peers. You should highlight the value youve brought to companies and the success that they have seen while you are there. Companies are looking for game-changers, they want 5 star recruits, not 2 star players who are not up to the challenge. You have to make yourself into a 5-star recruit, you cannot rest on your laurels and hope for the best. Spotlighting your success will show potential employers that you are capable of outperforming your peers.
